Supporting families of choice, Rainbow Respite is an initiative of the Volunteers of America Colorado’s Caring Companion Program. Rainbow Respite provides safe, comfortable and no-cost support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer caregivers and older adults in Larimer County. The program connects LGBTQ+ older adults living at home and their caregivers with volunteers who are LGBTQ+ or strong allies.
Volunteers provide a weekly break for caregivers and friendship for the older adult being cared for. Volunteers receive additional training to support the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ older adults.
